The History of Triune Biblical University

In the summer of 1981, in Poulsbo Washington, Dr. Leroy Mikels Th.D. and his wife Audrey Mikels D.B.S., Litt.D., had their vision to start a Bible College for adult Christians.

It was in a small and modest room of the craft store that Mrs. Mikels owned and managed, that Dr. Mikels, while working on his Doctor of Theology Degree Thesis, had his vision of a Christian Counseling Center.  As the vision developed, the Center gave way to Triune Bible Institute and Seminary and eight years later was named Triune Biblical University.

Dr. Leroy Mikels, the President of Triune Biblical University, earned his B.A. Degree from the University of Charleston, his B.S. Degree from Artesia Christian College, his M.A. Degree from Northwest Baptist Seminary and has his M.R.Ed., D.R.Ed., and his Th.D. Degrees with International Seminary.

Dr. Audrey Mikels has her Litt.D. with Triune and is Chancellor and co-founder of Triune Biblical University. She also supervises the office procedures and is the designer of the university’s graphic media.

The Mikels have four children, twin girls, Cindy and Candy, and two boys, Leroy Jr. and Thomas, who is Facilities & Equipment Director for the University.

Our Purpose

Triune Biblical University (TBU) is an evangelical, interdenominational community dedicated to the preparation of men and women for the manifold ministries of Jesus Christ and His Church.  Under the authority of Scripture it seeks to fulfill its commitment to ministry through Undergraduate, Graduate and Post Graduate Education, Professional Development and Spiritual growth.  In all its activities, including instruction, nurture, worship, service, research and publication, TRIUNE BIBLICAL UNIVERSITY strives for excellence in the service of Jesus Christ, under the guidance and power of the Holy Spirit, to the glory of the Father.

Vocational Diversity

In order to meet the demand of the Church today, the Board of Directors and Faculty of TBU takes seriously the apostolic description of the church’s nature - one body, many members.  For this reason all the programs of TBU are designed to provide for a wide range of Christian service.

Exempt Status

The Washington Higher Education Coordinating Board has reviewed and recognized that Triune Biblical University qualifies for religious exempt status from the Washington Degree Authority Act under WAC 250-61-060(4) for the following degrees:  Associate, Bachelors, Masters and Doctors of Biblical Studies, Christian Counseling, Christian Education, Ministry and Theology.

The School is a tax-exempt, non-profit corporation that seeks to serve the Lord Jesus Christ by providing religious higher education to Christian adults, enabling them to minister in diverse religious capacities, inclusive of the proclamation of the Gospel.

Accreditation

Triune Biblical University is not accredited by any organization approved by the State of Washington.

Is Accreditation Necessary?

If you are studying for something other than ministry, to become a business administrator, engineer, lawyer, etc., make sure that the school you are going to study with belongs to a regional (or national) accrediting association that is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.  In secular education, this type of accreditation is essential.

If your purpose in seeking an education is for the Gospel Ministry or a related field with Christian ministry, secular accreditation is not required.  All Christian Churches accept quality Christian education regardless of which accrediting group (if any) a school is with.

For education of those in Christian service, secular accreditation does nothing for Christian education other than making the tuition beyond the reach of most ministers.
